FIRM COMMITMENTS ARE NECESSARY HERE!
Once you sign up (via registration) to an event you must attend four practices prior to that event.
(there are some exceptions made at the coaches discretion)
Communication is Necessary!

Paddles and life jackets are provided. Life jackets fit 90 pounds and up
If you have your own you can use it!.
You should definitely bring a change of clothes and wear anything but cotton. Sandals or water shoes are good. As long as your footwear is fine to get wet.
Bring at least one bottle of water.

We hope that you choose to race. But we have many people on our team who choose to simply join us for practices.
Basically, we just need to know your intentions for the season.

Parking fees, potluck costs and occasionally travel costs. But we usually know ahead of time so teammates can plan for any extra expenses.
We have many people on our team who work shift work.
What we require is... a commitment at least 24 hours in advance. Ideally, a month long commitment is perfect.
Teammates are always able to check in on practice day to see if there is room.

No, the J stroke is used while canoeing and helps steer the a small craft. The stroke we use in the dragonboat is streamlined for speed and is very powerful when done efficiently.
Yes, all teammates must wear life jackets. We do give you the option to wear an automatic inflatable life jacket but it can not be a manual inflatable life jacket.
The club provides all life jackets but you are more than welcome to bring your own. If you are using a club life jacket… you will want to wear longer short sleeves so you do not get chafing on arm
yes! We are all inclusive and welcome children 10yrs and up. They need to have their own properly fitted life jacket (unless they are heavier than 90 pounds, then the life jacket is provided) and preferably a canoe paddle suitable for their size. They also need a participating parent in the boat
100 squats a day, 100 toe touches a day... rowing machine is excellent for cardio
Russian Twists are awesome and planks too! And of course, pool practices are extremely valuable!
Also... everyone is welcome to join in our group workouts on Monday and Thursday nights-(now until May)
During each and every practice... work hard and be coachable. Practices should be hard work... NOT just a fun time on the water.
Practices happen on Mondays and Thursdays. Attendance is taken and attendance matters! The team needs to practice paddling AS A TEAM. When paddlers are missing... this hampers race preparation. It is mandatory to attend a minimum of four practices prior to any given race event.
Exceptions are made at the coaches discretion. Communication is imperative.
We absolutely need team players to be successful. We need teammates to have a good attitude and understand sitting out and stepping up.
