This program is open to people with special needs. Special needs is broadly defined and includes, but not limited to Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays. Each participant should be able to sit in a boat independently for at least an hour. Everyone needs to follow directions for the safety of all participants.
This program is open to people with special needs. Special needs is broadly defined and includes, but not limited to Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays. Each participant should be able to sit in a boat independently for at least an hour. Everyone needs to follow directions for the safety of all participants. Life jackets (provided for participants 90 pounds and heavier) are required and must be worn at all times on the boat and on the docks. A strong swimming ability is not required, however everyone should at a minimum be comfortable in the water.
Team best suited for 12 years and older.
Kim started paddling with Lively Dragon in 2013. She fell in love with the sport the first time she put her paddle in the water. She learned to race and eventually tried competitive paddling. Kim started paddling with Lively Dragon in 2013. She fell in love with the sport the first time she put her paddle in the water. She learned to race and eventually tried competitive paddling. She competed in two Club Crew championships in Hungary and Florida. In 2023 she competed for Canada on the inaugural para dragon crew at the world championships. Kim has volunteered with the special needs program in Welland for the past three years. She is now pleased to bring this opportunity to Hamilton. Kim is a certified Level I dragon boat coach through Dragon Boat Canada.
The program ran for a total of 6 weeks.
Every Thursday- 6:00 pm until 7:15.
July 4, 11, 18, 25 and August 1 and 8.
Saturday August 10,2024 we attended the Hope Floats dragon boat festival in Welland, Ontario.
The total cost was $75 per person. Life jackets and paddles were provided. The cost included entry into the race and a t-shirt.
Extra Special Lively raced in four 200m races on Aug 10, 2024 at the Hope Floats event in Welland. Everyone had a ton of fun!
